Hospital Trash
Dumpster diving isn’t the only source of legitimate packaging for fake drugs. China Daily reported recently on an audacious scam for the theft of empty packages from Chinese hospitals. Insiders steal the packages, complete with anti-counterfeiting measures, and fill them with counterfeit medications. It’s a stunning example of why it might make you nervous to know that protective measures have been applied to the cardboard: what you get seems to be genuine protected cardboard, with who-knows-what inside.

My Chinese is pretty limited, but I’m pretty sure I saw ads for fake Rolex watches scrolling beside that China Daily story.
